Churton School House System
The Churton School house system helps promote senior leadership roles, develops interaction between senior and junior students and positively reinforces appropriate behaviour and academic achievement.
Structure:
4 houses: Rata, Miro, Tawa, Kowhai.
House teacher for each house.
Family grouping to promote family loyalty.
House meeting every Friday at 9:45 AM.
Students work towards 1st, Bronze, Silver and Gold honors certificates.
House points are given for sporting activities.
Sports
At Churton School, we run a wide variety of summer sports, winter sports, and interschool sports in which your child can take part in.
For Summer Sports, we offer:
Volleyball for years 3, 4, 5 and 6
Teeball for years 1, 2, 3 and 4
Futsal for years 5 and 6
For Winter Sports, we offer:
Football for all age groups
Hockey for all age groups
Both Summer and Winter Sports are advertised on the Churton Facebook page.
Regarding our interschool sports, Churton School is part of Whanganui Contributing School which means we take turn at hosting a wide range of sports.

Swimming Pool
At Churton School, we are proud to offer a fully equipped swimming pool, complete with changing amenities. Our students have the wonderful opportunity to enhance their water confidence and prioritize water safety during the summer months, with the pool accessible throughout Terms 4 and 1.
Kapa Haka
Churton Kapa Haka aims to provide cultural enrichment through an ongoing and dynamic process that seeks to celebrate, protect and promote the unique Māori identity in our local and wider community.
Our Kapa Haka is led by the incredible volunteer Tere Matthews from Te Oranganui. Practices are held once a week on Thursday 12:00 PM and is mainly for the senior students at the present time. Our Kapa Haka group performs to support special occasions such as prizegiving or Community events.
